Meet the aspiring musher from Alta

Hanna has had an interest in sled dogs all her life. She was born into a family with a history in mushing and it is easy to see how strong her connection and love for her dogs is. Hanna and her family used to live in Alaska before they moved back to Norway, and here she had her first personal experiences mushing. At the young age of 4, Hanna went on her first sled dog trip by herself, and ever since then she’s been hooked.

After three years as a junior, she is now competing in the longest and toughest sled dog races in the world and there is not much left that says junior musher. In 2019 she won the Finnmark race (FL-500) making her the youngest to ever gain this title. She was also crowned Norwegian Champion in long-distance dog sledding in the same year.

Today Hanna and her family lives in Alta where they run their own kennel and Trasti & Trine, the full adventure package, which offers accommodation, dog sled tours and dining. Looking at what Hanna has already achieved in her young dog mushing career, we can't be anything but excited for what her future will bring. An aspiring lady who knows how to race dogs!

Get to know some of her athletes

Maki

Maki is one of the most experienced dogs on Hanna's team. She has completed the Finnmark race several times and is a key player on the trail. A skilled lady you can always count on.

Varri

Varri is a big guy full of energy. He is a remarkable lead dog who adores attention. If things aren't looking great, Varri will take charge and lead by example. He is a dog who works well in bad weather as well and you know his strength and lust for speed will get you where you need to be.

Koti

Koti is a gentle soul. He might not be the one you notice first in the yard, but you can be certain this fellow always is in a good mood and is ready to go. Despite being rather petite and careful, Koti is also one of the mentally strongest on the team. He is a very clever and loyal dog who knows when to push and when to hold back.

Singel

Singel and Hanna are like two peas in a pod. You can be assured she will always give her best, no matter what. The strong connection the two have, makes Single a very important player, as she is one who never disappoints.

Q & A

Did you know?

I knew I wanted to do professional dog mushing when… When I was 4 years old, I said I wanted to race the Iditarod. I guess it’s safe to say that I’ve always wanted to be a dog musher. However, looking back, it’s probably during the two last years of high school that I decided to really go for it. Being part of the QRILL Pet Mushing Team inspires me to give it my all.

My most memorable racing experience is… Getting to the finish line at the FL-1200 Finnmarks race in 2018. After a lot of setbacks, it was a completely indescribable feeling to finally get to Alta with my team. That is still sticks with me to this day.

The race I dream of winning is… Finnmark race FL-1200.

My goal for the next five years is… To become an even better dog musher. This is a never-ending journey, which is also something that is so great with this sport. I’m still pretty new and my goal is to continue to train great dogs, get more experienced and of course do good during racing.

If I didn’t do what I am doing today, I would… Probably still be in school with the rest of my friends!
